Sibal for 80 Percent in Class XII as Minimum eligibility for IIT JEE

The Way Our Honorable HRD Minister Kapil Sibal is going about the transformation in the Indian Education System, the word “Sibalization“ should be heard more often.

As per the recent news in TOI , HRD minister Kapil Sibal on Monday wanted more weightage to be given to Class 12 Board exam for IIT entrance and proposed raising the required minimum of 60% marks to at least 80%.

Sibal said the 60% minimum was unacceptable as the government move came in an attempt to ensure that students taking entrance tests to the premier institutes gave equal importance to the secondary school exam and to check the growth of IIT coaching centres.

A Committee of IIT directors has been appointed to work out a revised system for IIT entrance from 2011.

Sibal told reporters the move is aimed at ensuring that students take their class XII seriously and checking the growth of coaching centres, which are thriving on imparting coaching to students for IIT entrance.

“The present criteria is that students need to secure 60 per cent at class XII for appearing in IIT-JEE. This is not acceptable. The minimum marks required for IIT-JEE could be raised up to 80 to 85 per cent,” Sibal said after a meeting of the IIT Council, the apex decision making body for the elite institutes, here.

At the same time. he added that the decision about the required percentage will be taken by the committee.

“The coaching centres are giving training for the IIT entrance. As a result, the students are not studying seriously for class XII exam and giving more attention to entrance. We want to get rid of the coaching centres by giving more weightage to the board exam,” Sibal said.

Nokia 5800 vs INQ 1 - Social Networking and Media

As you already know Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is a mobile phone dedicated to music and now he have INQ1, which is a  mobile phone dedicated to music and now he have INQ1, which is a Facebook dedicated mobile phone. So, which of this mobile phones is better?5800? INQ1? It’s at least a difficult question because they were done for different purposes but with the same objective: to work in the interaction between users and phones.

5800 is all about music? INQ1 is all about Facebook?

No way, INQ1 uses all this Facebook relation to make the device possible to gather data from social networking contacts to your phone book list for example, the device is much more than a simple “social device” for “famous social networking people”. At the same time Nokia 5800 Xpress Music isn’t dedicated to music, but to all kinds of media, such as video on it’s huge screen (yah, if you try to see a movie on your Nokia 5800 the quality is great, simply the best i saw in a phone) or TV. 5800 support MPEG4, WMV or 3GP.

Music, Social Music and Media

In terms of music it’s difficult to decide who is the winner, because while INQ1 integrates the music player with the social network last.fm and the Nokia 5800 “Comes With Music” in some countries and by subscribing 1 year you get unlimited tracks to download. Nokia 5800 has indeed the best Media player, supporting the usual file formats, displaying album art when you play a track, showing the track playing and time elapsed information too. The sound you get from Nokia 5800 is similar to an ipod (dude, it’s an Xpress Music!!!) but I can’t say the same thing about INQ1, hehe.

Social vs Not Social

INQ 1 integrates many social networks, as last.fm, Facebook, Skype, it has built-in support for Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo e-mail accounts joined with Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, you can accede to Windows Live and Skype Messenger. The INQ 1 web browser is compatible with the most famous websites in the WWW, plus it is compatible with Nokia5800.net, of course. It s a social phone, but if we think a bit it is better to pay a more and have a device compatible with this apps (of course many of them  aren’t built-in) but can give you more fun and entertainment, like …(what would be?) Nokia 500 Xpress Music, the web navigation is excellent so as the e-mail accounts access, and skype? Voip can be installed in the 5800…Well, no Facebook, indeed that’s true.

Concluding, in terms of media in general, the winner is Nokia 5800, in terms of social media and social networking we can’t say that INQ 1 isnt’ a winner…

Hands-on with Motorola MOTOMING A1600

Does the MING series have a place in North America? The stylish (well, depending on who you ask) Linux-based Moto smartphones have always been designed from the ground up for the Chinese market going back to the original A1200, but from afar, it’s easy to see why you might want to put one in your pocket no matter where you live; after all, they look unlike anything else on the market, they’re smartphones, they’re delightfully compact, and they rock touchscreens. But realistically, is it possible to make a MING your daily dialer? Read on!

We spent a little time recently with the new A1600, and physically, we were blown away. It’s a very small device which means the screen is a bit small at 2.4 inches, but it’s bright, crisp, it’s got a nice finger-friendly feel to it — and thankfully, it’s flush with the surrounding case. The back of the phone is done up in a great soft-touch plastic that we wanted to run our hands over, the hinge has a solid feel, and overall, we got the impression that this is a well-manufactured phone.

The software is a more disappointing experience, but it has potential. It comes out of the box with a full suite of productivity and entertainment apps, and we were delighted that we were able to spend almost all our time navigating with a finger alone. There’s a stylus (a surprisingly long one, in fact) in the upper right corner for one you need it, which you will once you need to input text. This sucks, but it’s a reality of a screen this small. You’ve got both character recognition and a QWERTY keyboard available, and one look at the keys on that keyboard are a stark reminder of just how badly you need the stylus here — they’re seriously just a few pixels wide.

If Motorola were to drop Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, HSDPA, and WiFi onto this exact physical form factor, they could bill it as a really unique, high-end fashion smartphone and make a little cash for themselves, because we really don’t see a compelling reason why the MING has to be a China special. As it stands, though, the A1600’s probably a little too raw for your average Joe — and that’s a crying shame.

Motorola’s VE75 slider invades China

Nothing says “I love you” like sending every single one of your hot new handset models your way, and that’s pretty much the beautiful romance that’s going on between Moto and China as of late. The A1600, A1800, and A810 have all induced various levels of lust from outsiders who can’t get their paws on ‘em (not yet, anyway), and now we’ve got another little bundle of Linux-powered joy to drool over, the VE75 slider. It’ll happily swallow a pair of SIMs (as so many Asian market handsets tend to do) and offers EDGE data, a 2 megapixel camera, WQVGA display, and microSD slot. It’ll be available — and we use the term “available” loosely until a more global announcement is made — in black and white.

Motorola Aura gets unboxed

We’ve seen it up close and even knocked-off already, but when it comes to a $2,000 phone, we’re guessing that a proper unboxing is as high on your list of must-sees as it is on ours. Thankfully, the folks at T3 have come through and done the honors and, as far as unboxings go, this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. As you can see above, the phone comes packed in a rather stylish and sturdy box that likely won’t be seeing too many trash cans any time soon and, of course, the phone itself is looking as envy-inducing as ever.

Reliance mobile launches GSM services in Punjab

Chandigarh (IANS): Reliance Communications Monday announced the launch of its GSM mobile services in Punjab, becoming the first telecom operator in the circle to have both GSM and CDMA services for mobile users.

"The service will cover 460 towns, 11,741 villages and a number of national, state and other highways, tourist and religious places throughout the state," Reliance regional hub head Arvind Kumar told reporters at the launch.

The Punjab circle GSM market is dominated by telecom majors Airtel and Idea (till recently Spice) and the entry of Reliance is likely to make the competition even more keen.

Offering a Reliance GSM prepaid SIM card for a one-time charge of just Rs.25, Reliance officials said the inaugural offer to subscribers would provide 100 percent savings to the sub-Rs.300 users.

"The difference we are offering over earlier service providers is the superior quality of service which customers will acknowledge through the customer experience programme," Kumar said.

The plan offers talk time worth Rs.900 on local calls and SMS to any network. Each subscriber will be given free talk time worth Rs.10 everyday for 90 days, Kumar said.

Reliance claimed that it had set up adequate number of towers across Punjab to provide high quality, congestion-free and zero call drop GSM services.

BlackBerry 8350i chirps its way through the FCC

FCC labs must just love testing iDEN devices, since you’re basically guaranteeing yourself several days of super-annoying “beep beeps” emanating from phones placed in proximity to bizarre, gelatinous objects designed to simulate human flesh. Of course, RIM owns its own testing facility (no conflict of interest there or anything), so they’ve no one to blame but themselves for producing the 8350i — a Curve-alike designed to keep the push-to-talkers of the world calm and happy. We still don’t have an exact release date, but we’ve previously heard that it’s on track for the current quarter; if FCC certification was the only thing they were holding on, we imagine could see it pretty shortly.
